MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins are buying and selling safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in trade for a seventh-round decide within the 2026 NFL Draft that initially belonged to the Los Angeles Chargers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed Monday.
Fitzpatrick is predicted to signal a three-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, his agent Drew Rosenhaus informed ESPN.
The transfer comes shortly after Miami introduced it could launch quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the beginning of the brand new league 12 months.
Fitzpatrick had one 12 months left on his $15.6 million (non-guaranteed) contract, and the Dolphins opted to transfer him, in the end sending him to a division rival.
During the 2025 season, he recorded 82 tackles, one compelled fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
Fitzpatrick, who was chosen by Miami within the first-round of the 2018 NFL Draft was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers a 12 months later due to a dispute with then-coach Brian Flores.
He was then traded again from Pittsburgh to Miami in trade for cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight finish Jonnu Smith.
The five-time Pro Bowl choice and three-time first-team All-Pro has totaled 690 tackles, 21 interceptions and 6 compelled fumbles throughout eight NFL seasons, together with six with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
