Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame middle Alonzo Mourning has undergone surgical procedure to have his prostate removed after being recognized with Stage 3 prostate cancer, ESPN reported Monday.

According to ESPN’s report, testing revealed the cancer didn’t unfold past the prostate.

Mourning advised the outlet that he had the removing process in March and is now cancer free.

Mourning is a 7-time All-Star, an NBA champion and an Olympic gold medalist.

He performed most of his NBA profession with the Miami Heat.

Mourning advised ESPN in an interview that he’s encouraging routine prostate cancer screening for males and that he’s decided to be an advocate for at-risk males.

“What scares me about this disease is that there are so many men walking around feeling great and have that cancer in them and they don’t know it,” Mourning advised ESPN. “The only way to find out is to get their blood tested and get their PSA checked. There are 3.3 million men living in the U.S. with prostate cancer, and many don’t even know it. I was one of those guys.”
