Tagovailoa takes accountability for remarks following Dolphins’ 1-5 start

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa spoke to reporters Wednesday for the primary time since his postgame feedback raised eyebrows following the staff’s 29-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers this previous Sunday.

The defeat dropped Miami to 1-5 on the season because the Dolphins put together to host the Cleveland Browns this weekend.

“I made a mistake and I’m owning up to that right now,” Tagovailoa stated. “I talked to the guys and talked to the leaders. They know the intent and my heart was right. The intent can be right, but when things are misconstrued. I got to look at myself as the leader, the protector of the team, and none of that should’ve gotten out.”

Tagovailoa on Sunday steered {that a} lack of accountability and management is likely to be contributing to the staff’s issues, saying some teammates have skipped or arrived late to players-only conferences.

“I think it starts with the leadership and helping articulate that for the guys, and then what we’re expecting out of the guys,” Tagovailoa stated after the sport. “We’re expecting ‘this. Are we getting that? Are we not getting that? We have guys showing up to player-only meetings late, guys not showing up to player-only meetings. There’s a lot that goes into that.”

On Wednesday, Tagovailoa stated his feedback had been a results of “built-up emotions” and never permitting himself to regulate them within the second.

He emphasised that the staff’s tradition shouldn’t be a difficulty, saying gamers responded nicely in observe.

“It was frustration, and that can’t happen — especially with the way things are going for our team,” he stated. “I can see how it can be misconstrued by the media.”

Looking forward, Tagovailoa stated the Browns’ protection — led by All-Pro edge rusher Myles Garrett — will probably be one other main problem.

“He presents a big challenge on both sides of the field,” Tagovailoa stated.

The Dolphins (1-5) will journey to Cleveland subsequent Sunday to face the Browns (1-5) at Huntington Bank Field.
